Rethinking Local Gateways – A Satellite Industry Perspective

The paper addresses the possible requirement for national gateway stations. More specifically, certain national regulations require that all traffic generated by satellite user terminals in the territory of a country must pass through an in-country gateway Earth station. This requirement often originates from Lawful Interception (LI), national security and/or internet content/filtering regulations.
